While we have concerns (see below), CPResumes (the CP = Careers Plus) scored a 3-star
rating for 3 reasons in particular: they lead in affordability, their writers have solid credentials, and
their guarantee is one of the strongest we've seen in the industry.
Affordability is evident from a glance at their pricing. The writers are all CPRWs (Certified Professional
Resume Writers), as well as former hiring officials. That's a powerful combination to have working on your
resume. And regarding the guarantee, it's simply one of the stronger in the business. They
offer unlimited revisions for a full 90 days, and a partial refund if you don't land an
interview within those 90 days.
The Step-By-Step:
Determine whether you need their entry level resume, or professional (if you're mid-career or mid-level
management), or executive resume. There's a page for each, with upfront pricing and packages.
Place your order and complete their online
questionnaire. Upload/fax an existing resume, if you have one. At that point you'll be assigned a resume
writer who specializes most closely in your particular profession or discipline.
You'll be contacted by your writer, who will arrange a one-on-one phone consultation to gather more information.
You can do that chat via email if you prefer (Note: we advise going with the phone interview).
Your documents will be crafted and you'll receive a first draft via email within 24-48 hours. If everything is
good, download the attachments (Word, PDF and ASCII file formats) and save them to your computer. If revisions are
needed, you've got 90 days of free editing.
Here's what we liked:
- The writers have hiring experience. Each writer has relevant certification, as you would expect
with service of this caliber. But each also has a background that included executive-level hiring. That's a
good insight to have when you're writing a client's resume.
- Personalized service. We like the fact that a one-on-one phone consultation with your writer is a
given.
- Multiple file formats at no extra charge. Your finished resume comes to you in Word Document, PDF
and ASCII file formats.
- Extensive list of sample resumes are made available on the web site to give you an idea of quality
of writing you can expect. We liked what we saw.
- Unlimited resume edits for a full 90 days. And if you haven't landed an interview in that
time, get some money back AND a rewrite.
- Pricing is some of the best we've seen for the quality.
Here's what we didn't like:
The Better Business Bureau notes a "pattern of complaints" for this company ranging from
inattentive customer service to resumes not being delivered within the specified time frames. In fairness,
one has to take into account a company's size and volume of transactions when considering customer complaints,
and this is a sizable company that writes a lot of resumes. It's also worth noting that management has made
overtures toward establishing procedures to more effectively resolve customer issues -- also reported by
the BBB. That said, we remain concerned.
To summarize:
CPResumes has some attractive features going for it: from an easy-to-navigate website to one of the best
guarantees in the industry. And pricing is some of the most reasonable we've seen, given the quality of the product
(as evidenced by posted samples).
Given our concerns over the BBB report, we would advise prospective customers to balance the
pros and cons to their own satisfaction. And if need be, consider other companies we've reviewed -- including our
Top Ranked company ResumeWriters.com, our review of which can be found HERE.
